To me, San Jose is borderline. It does touch water, and I'm not even sure that's the only definition, bc the Santa Cruz Mountains to me are 'coastal,' but San Jose is far from 'the coast.' I think what's important is if it's coastal for purposes of this thread. I might consider San Jose to be as coastal as, say, downtown LA. But places like Livermore or Julian are tough to consider coastal on a technicality bc of what counties they're in.

15 miles as the crow flies really isn't that "far" from the coast at all.
