Hi,
A friend used to teach mathematics at a well-known elite high-school in the Midwest and is considering returning to teach in the greater SB area.

I am curious as to what my friend can expect in terms of pay and benefits. Also, which districts have the rep for giving merit pay bonuses, paying top dollar or offering a great environment and ancillary opportunities?

Any insider advice?

Thanks,
S

I know this isn't answering your question, but would your friend still consider this if the pay was "only" 50% higher in Santa Barbara than in the midwest? A 100% higher?

Hi Charles,
Sorry, I did not explain myself as clearly as I should have. My friend has already been in SB for a few years but not as a teacher. So the comparisons are teaching versus other professions.

Thanks, S

You might look at Edjoin.org--search on the district you're interested in. This isn't a prime recruiting time of year so you might have to search a little.

Not only is this not prime recruiting time, most districts in CA are actually laying off teachers because of the budget issues. I feel sorry for anyone looking for a teaching job right now.
