Didn't we just have a law passed where PG&E wouldn't be liable for damages, but could pass the costs down to the customers? Like just a couple of weeks ago?
Yep, Brown signed a bill allowing them to pass the costs from disasters (even if they were the fault of PG&E) to its customers. But even with that bill their stock dropped 38% today https://finance.yahoo.com/news/pg-e-...131458809.html

But I still hope that there's some way to put the crooks out of business

Does anyone know the names of the deceased? I cannot find it online.

I am wondering if Jane Keller is still alive? She is a Christian, a really nice person.

Ours is $ 2760 and I need that money for our motel room, fast food, dog food, maybe a new pair of jeans for my wife if the only one she got wears out.
The city needs cash to pay the overblown salaries of the city administrators and everyone else. They just approved a 61 million dollar bond for improvements for the high school. For that bond alone our share of property tax increase would be an extra $ 150, I was told. I wonder how they plan to repay that when the revenues stop coming in.
Interesting times, indeed.
Insurance companies provide loss of business revenue to any business that has coverage. FEMA also distributes monies through the SBA for lost revenue. Likewise the feds supply lost tax revenue to municipalities in disaster zones.

Long term though, what will be the economic engine that brings Paradise back to normality? It was a retirement community with some people commuting to Chico. There’s no industry, no large health care, or educational institution, no factories or large office buildings with company HQ in them.

Not sure what will bring folks back to Paradise. That’s not even taking insurance issues into consideration. It could be that no one will be able to get homeowners insurance.

From the news earlier there were three confirmed names but all were male. One 65, one 45 and one in his 70's. If I find anything, I'll be sure to post it.

Isn't CA FAIR plan available in all cases, even to those who can't find any private insurer, no matter what the risk is?
Also, I think there's a law in CA that requires private insurers to renew a policy once, after a disaster...

What will bring people back is cheap land that is close to a university town - assuming people decide not to rebuild.

And yeah, for now, if you can't get insurance from anyone else, you can get a state policy.
