The wife and I had been planning on moving our family and software development company to California early next year. We had been focusing on the Palos Verdes area, although we also were considering Calabasas. Over the past few months we have gone back and forth about the move, but we finally decided to avoid California due to several factors.

I won't bore you with the details, as I am sure you have heard it 1000 times before. I think the real issue is that a born and raised American finds it too financially difficult to move to the state, while someone born in Mexico, El Salvador or Honduras can walk right in without worrying about a thing. Free healthcare, housing assistance, etc. while a job generating business and tax paying family is unwilling to pay for the free stuff for non Americans.

Ultimately we just were not comfortable having a target on our backs, with a government so anti-American. The good news is you don't have to see another car on the freeway. The bad news is you have one less contributor to offset your tax burden. Taxation without representation does not work for us.

I am not sure if we are going to stay in Colorado or go somewhere else. But Northern Mexico is officially off the list.

This is like those posts where people announce they are leaving the discussion.

This post is a humble-brag, vanity bit.

Fine, OP. We will soldier on without you.

Another bash California thread. How novel and refreshing.

I believe you and your family are have made the right decision. California has been spiraling downward for years; however, the current pandemic and the related economic turmoil has accelerated the state's social decline. In this state, the interests and priorities of the elected officials are completely out of line with the interests and priorities of average residents, especially those who are U.S. citizens. And if you enjoy working with and living among other American people, then you are in for a rude awakening, if you relocate to California; there are hardly any American people left in Los Angeles.

The state is being gutted unfortunately. I am really not welcome. It all started with the illegals. If they were not let in by the millions, I don't think a far left government would have been possible. When I lived in California the first time, the government was far more balanced. Today it is going full blown socialist and that means higher taxes for the suckers still contributing. I guess I just do not trust the politics in California. There are many other reasons but let's not go there.

It is just sad that an American with a good business feels so unwelcome in a state that should be opening their arms to people like us. The opposite message is being sent. We aren't dark enough I guess.
