I just returned from a 3500+mile road trip across 6 US states.

Somehow someway, I did not have to pass anyone on the right the entirety of that trip. Except on the return once I hit Nevada. And two of the three vehicles I passed in Nevada had California plates.

It got way worse once I was in California and I stopped counting around Barstow when I hit 20.

I’ll note the fastest I went the entire trip was 88mph (and Utah, Idaho, Wyoming have 80 mph speed limits). In fact, I did not once observe anyone exceed around 95 mph until of course I returned to California.

California drivers are idiots.

It escape my understanding that the rest of the nation changes lanes when there is a car behind them that wishes to drive faster, but California drivers mosey along in ignorant bliss.

I’m calling BS on that one. I’m in the Northeast and Pacific Northwest multiple times a year and I’m constantly passing people on the right.

I call BS too.
I drive the West Coast more than most and have driven in about every state.
I normally drive rather than fly between the far NW end of Washington and the Bay Area every 8 or so weeks.
I find California drivers to be among the best.
Safely cruising along at 80 or so mph is no big deal in California.
Try that in Oregon or Washington and you will get your lunch handed to you.
I find as a rule California is more about driver safety where as Washington and Oregon are more about revenue enhancement when it comes to driving.
I’d also wager to say that California’s commuters are dialed in more so than others.

I always find myself passing on the right---it's annoying. On the other hand, I am real stickler for staying out of the far left lane if I am not going with the flow---cars that gatekeep the fast lane either deliberately or not, is also extremely annoying.
