If Stockton didn't have such a large number of illegal Mexicans you wouldn't see it put down nearly as much as people do. Land is just land, the people make an area what it is. I finally think the people of Stockton, the Central Valley and California are tired of the open door policy we have here in the USA, and it needs to be stopped and stopped now. It is ridiculous letting them take over our country.

On the way back from a family trip to Oregon in 1974, I think it was, we stopped at a Motel 6 in Stockton, which was already showing the ills of urban America of the day. The condition of that motel was pretty horrific, but we were too tired to look for another place, so we just put up with it and left as soon as we could early the next morning.

The last time I was there was another overnight motel stay in 2001 and the place really was pretty much Skid Row seedy. In fact, the morning I left, I got approached by a crack addicted hooker who probably hadn't bathed in a week as I pumped gas into my car. You gotta love Stockton.

If it didn't have such a large number of illegal Mexicans, it would be a ghost town. Few sensible legals would want to live out there, with essentially no jobs except working in the fields for minimum wage.

It may sound counter-intuitive, but hard-working illegal Mexicans are good for house values in Stockton and the Central Valley.

If you're illegal, you must work hard to buy food and pay your rent. You get free health care through Medi-Cal, but that's about it. If you're a citizen, between food stamps, section 8, and Medicaid, you don't really have to work a day in your life.

Stockton in general is NOT a grand place to live with a huge rate of crime as much of the central valley has, much of that can be attributed to largely Hispanic gangs such as Norte and Sur 13..

Yep.. You can see the tagging and graffiti everywhere..

The Illegals are part of the problem that is bankrupting the entire state of California, Not just Stockton.. But that's a different topic for a different area in the forums HINT: Politics and other Controversies/Illegal Immigration..

Also, Much of the forclosure crisis in the valley can be attributed to people that should NOT have received home loans to purchase homes, including Illegal Aliens..

There are lots of perfectly legal Hispanics in this country, perhaps they are the ones in those gangs ... Like I said, if you want to survive in this country as an illegal, you must work. The only people who can afford to waste their time hanging out with gangbanger buddies and drawing graffiti are the ones legally present in the country.

If you think you have a problem with crime in Stockton, you've never seen inner city Detroit or Newark ... and you won't find many illegals in those two.

Regardless of the issues in Detroit or Newark, the town being discussed here is STOCKTON..

Illegal Aliens don't come here just "to work".. That is pretty naive thinking given the amount of drugs being smuggled into this country from Mexican cartels.. Illegal Aliens also have children in the U.S., those children are U.S. Citizens which makes the Illegals eligible to receive a large buffet of taxpayer subsidized benefits..

Anyway back on subject, STOCKTON.. Stockton has alot of potential, unfortunately it has always been seen as the ugly stepsister of Modesto.. There have been attempts to clean up that image with the Waterfront renovations and the Bob Hope Theater, unfortunately though there really aren't many opportunities in the area, despite the University.. I'm predicting that Merced (to the South) will be similar to Stockton in coming years..

The Norteno gangs (Red) which pretty much dominate that area. Are mostly Mexican American and (some white), meaning 2nd and 3rd generation hispanics. So alot of them where born and grew up in CA. Most of the illegals are in the Sur 13 gang that newly arrived from Mexico or So. CA. My point is illegal or not, Crime has been heavy there whether you Hispanic, Black, White, Islander, Asian, or whatever. I do agree with you about the illegals playing a part in the bankrupting of the entire state though.

There are lots of illegal Mexicans in Redwood City, too. Yet it is considered a decent and safe suburb. The illegals are not the problem in Stockton, it's the economy. The fact that decent jobs are available 2 hours away brings up the property values without providing any benefit to the actual community.

Correct RWC is a good counter argument to the "blame the illegals" crowd.
