Just FYI, the entire Bay Area (including South Bay) no longer meets the federal standards on air quality.

The Bay Area Air Quality district now declares no fireplace burning days in winter to try to clean up the air.

I don't have the specifics on Placerville, but there are air problems in much of El Dorado County which includes Placeville. It must be all the new suburbs and people commuting to jobs.

Sacramento County 22 days

But there's a house in there that, if you're a kid, will appear to devy gravity, you can take about a 15 minute train ride around and through the trees and the conductor tells you some interesting history. It's nothing fancy but it's cheap and kind of a nice stop if you've been driving for awhile. They also sell food and gifts there.
