Alright, I'm fairly new to this forum just looking to get some feed back.

Myself and some friends, if I can convince them, might be looking to move to California within the next year. I know this is a big time frame but I wanted to start looking early. what are some areas that we might want to look at that are near Los Angeles, being within about an hour drive? I have looked at some of the facts online about some of the cities, but I think they make it sound worse than it actually is. I have a friend who just moved here (alabama) from California and gave me some Ideas but I wanted some more advice. I'm ball parking a housing budget of about $1500. It's five of us but we can fit into a four bedroom house or apartment, (one room is a couple).

What are some Ideas? Also, is this a reasonable budget?

Any ideas would be great.

Why do you want to move to California? Why near Los Angeles?
What line of work are you in? Will you have jobs when you arrive?
Any kids involved, or just adults?

It's just adults. And I know that it sounds cliche but we are all actors, so that field. As of this moment, we are all just getting out of college and are working on getting jobs. Will we have jobs? we'll most certainly try too. That's why we are starting early, so we can get everything in order. We know only what we have heard, it's hard to get a job, it's expensive, etc.

We are all looking to start a career and want to give it the best chance possible even if it takes living together for a couple years.

I hope this answers your questions without making me look naive. We know it will be tough and are prepared for it. We just want to make sure we aren't jumping into an impossible situation, housing wise.

You're just down Highway 72 from me - I'm in the Big Cove area of Huntsville. I grew up in LA and lived there 45 years.

Here's a great tool for you.

HousingMaps

It google maps Craigslist rentals. Within minutes you can see what costs what where.

Yeah, I noticed that. I've always wanted to live in california and moved to Alabama from Georgia. One state closer. It's not that bad though.
