I have a question I cant seem to find an answer for.

I paid my rent via an online rentpayment wesite that was provided to me by my apartment complex. I paid my rent for November on 11/6/08 and recived an email confirmation that the payment had been recived. The money was deducted from my checking account, or so I assumed. I closed the checking account in late December.

On February 20 I recived a 3 day notice from my landlord claiming that my rent for November was never paid. Yes they came almost 4 months later claiming this. I advised them i would need to call the bank I was with at the time to have them research this.

I called the bank and they stated to me that since this is almost 4 months ago and that my account has been closed for more than 60 days they will need to have thier corporate office locate the files and see what went wrong with the transaction.

1. Is there a statute of limitations on back rent.
2. Dont they have to give me some time for the bank to get back to me on this? I

In this economy I dont have the money to pay that plus be on time for March?
