Need quick opinions as to which make and model to put in a "Great Room". Will have plenty of light in room. LCD vs Plasma? What brands are ones to definitely stay away from? Closest store would be Sears, Wallmart and then Costco. Don't want to break the bank as It will be used for mainly watching TV and movies. Has anyone got any inside knowledge as to smokin' deals coming out next week?

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Not in California anymore, the politicians decided people can't have them.

Plenty in CA despite what the news might say, just show the $$.
We are in the market for similar size and specs. In our case we have many windows that make light reflect from the screen which is even annoying with our CRT, so based on my research plasma is out. LCDs also use less electricity. If you can go with the lower resolution (720) there are many on sale. Unfortunately for me I have compared them with the 1080 side by side and the quality difference is noticeable. I have never bought anything from sears, I feel they are expensive. Costco gives you a 2 yr warranty. I am waiting for a floor sample to go on sale.

How much better is 1080? I'm told that I don't even have 1080 with my cable subscriber...

If the tv is smaller than low 40"s, I wouldn't get 1080p. If you're watching blu rays, I would HIGHLY recommend 1080p.

Might be worth taking a look at the new laser tv's. They use low amounts of electricity and supposedly have great pictures. Can't stop myself from saying that the global warming hucksters and their koolaide drinkers will love you too.

I got a 46" Toshiba 1080p plasma, $900+tax at Costco recently. So far I'm quite pleased.
