It has recently been reported that nearly 1.4 million Californians have settled for part-time work due to poor economic conditions and a battered job market. According to the California Employment Development Department, 8.1% of the work force is made up of part timers. This is a roughly a 50% increase over 2008.

Though recent reports have suggested a drop in unemployment and increases in corporate hiring, the fact still remains that there is not enough demand to accommodate all those that want full time jobs. A recent state labor report cited that 78% of those surveyed who were currently working part-time jobs were indeed looking for full-time work. Continued @ California Politics

Another accounting trick for companies is to hire lots of contractors.
Then, when they need to cut back, they just let the contracts expire.
It does not count as a layoff/downsize.

It broke my heart 2 days when I drove to up to a big strip mall to go to TARGET and I saw 20 Mexican migrant workers waiting to get a chance for some day labouring, which probably paid well under 8 dollars per hour. Everyone in this is state is suffering...I hope one day things will get better.

Default The real mission

It will get better when we stop trying to save money and learn how not to spend it. This will change the face of consumerism/commercialism
