My boyfriend and I are planning a trip across country. We are moving from Boston Ma to west hollywood, where he has a job out there coming up.

We just have tons of questions we thought you guys were perfect for.

Just a few...

we plan on driving to get the car out there? what do we absolutely need to know?

how much money should we plan on needing to make it?

how long will it take if we want to get there the fastest route possible.

should we sell everything we have besides clothes etc to make the trip easier?

and my main question is we have a 2 yr old dog who doesnt do well in car rides. we take her to cape cod for the summer and she doesnt handle that 1 hr ride to well. what should we do about that?

thanks so much!!!

I've actually plotted the trip from the East Coast before. You are looking at 48 hours of driving time from Boston on I-40. At three 14 hour days and one 6 hour day, it is a lengthy trip. Assuming you stick to the schedule, you will get into LA not at rush hour which is huge.

Day 1: Boston- Indianapolis: 14 hours
Day 2: Indianapolis- Sayre, OK (TX-OK state line): 14 hours
Day 3: Sayre, OK- Bullhead City, AZ: 14 hours
Day 4: Bullhead City- West Hollywood: 6 hours

Figure you need 3 nights in a roadside hotel, probably between $75-$100 X 3 nights= $300. Food money, let's say $10 per meal per person. $120 per person for food= $240.

Gas is harder to calculate but for sake of argument say you get 20 miles per gallon at $3.00 per gallon at 3,000 miles= $450.

$450 + $240 + $300= approx. $1000.

The northern route on I-80 may be more scenic, but it is still winter in the midwest and great plains and can slow you down considerably.

Ask a vet. There are pet tranquilizers.
