Yes - I think it's best to start out simple, just the essentials and see if you even like camping and then go from there. How you camp might also be determined by how long you want to camp and of course if you have kids or not.
It's amazing how much you can store inside a popup and once you have one, you don't have to do much packing or unpacking, you can leave everything you need for camping right in the popup, including warm clothes you might need "in case", and fishing pools, all your camping utensils and tools you use for camping.
I even stored the tents in the popup -- for longer stays, I always liked to set up a tent for a changing room or just to keep the storage bins, dirty laundry, wet towels, and extra stuff.
