Just wondering if any of you have towed a trailer on Oregon Hwy 138, from Roseburg to Diamond Lake. We're taking a trip in May and want to head out that way but are worried about the drive with a trailer.

I haven't towed that route, but my 52hp VW's are as slow as towing...
It is a very gentle slope and curves, basically a 50 mph+ road. 70.4 mi, 1 hour 17 mins

There are lots of nice campgrounds along the river. w/ a nice hike to Toketee Falls (and adjacent wood water tube... IIRC, there are some Hot Springs within ez hike.

Thanks Stealth. Our plan is to stop at Diamond Lake then head up to Bend (for a family visit) and then on to Biggs Junction. From there....down to Portland and into Wa etc. Any thoughts about the route? During May? Towing a trailer?

There are a couple nice WA State campgrounds between Biggs and The Dalles (both are free bridges). And the Deschutes on OR side (kinda noisy with freeway traffic)

The westbound view / flattest is best on I-84, from The Dalles to Portland. Be sure to stop at Bonneville Dam / hatchery and Multnomah Falls Lodge (good food, I prefer Breakfast there). Scenic Highway is likely too curvy / narrow to enjoy if you are new to towing, but there are some nice viewpoints.

While in Portland in May... I would see the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden (Near Reed College).

Thanks. I'll check out the campgrounds and the Rhododendrons! I'm excited. It should be a fun trip.
