I spent just over 3 months when I was 18. Got kicked out of the house by my old man, so I took out the backseats of my VW hatch and lived in it.
Looking back, I should have done it a lot more. There were a few struggles(mostly with showers/clean clothes) but man was it fun.

21 yrs.... My '73 Dodge club cab got sold 10 yrs ago, but gave me 350k with ONLY a $17 timing chain repair. (Tho the 'front-end' guy told me it was totally worn out at 100k... I still was getting 50k out of my USED frt tires. ($5 (new) at junk yard)

50 mpg since 1976...(34 yrs) No OPEC, Dinosaurs, or toxic batteries required. Where have you been?
I just sold my 1952 tractor (60 yrs) last yr, it was VERY close to my heart and BAILED me out numerous times... still ran FINE (and I had only changed ORIGINAL front tires 5 yrs ago.) Had I known what I do NOW... I would have kept it... (I bought another small farm, so could use another tractor).

Sold Grandpa's '28 john Deere 7 yrs ago. He still was using a 1946 grain truck that my dad gave to him in 1955. He was driving his 1972 Chevy (upgraded from hi '55 'farm car') as the '72 had AC. I caught him watering the garden from the seat of the '72. I wondered why he had 8' between the rows .

But... LIVED in... I still only used my Dodge for camping (as well as my VW's).
I do rent out a 1970's trailer...

OLD neighbor has a 60's school bus been living in for awhile...

Wow that's pretty wild, I knew two guys who did this, both were disabled, one had a very small trailer and the other had an old motorhome, they lived in state campgrounds in isolated areas, I got to know them from hunting trips. these guys lived pretty rough, one guy just lived on campers handouts and fish from the creeks, the other seemed to always have food, I'm sure they both got state disability but I think the one guy gave most of his to his daughter. they both seemed happy enough. i haven't seen them in years, I'm sure they have both passed away by now.

I got married pretty young, I think that stopped me from doing the same thing, i always had the urge to live like that, i grew up living like gypsy's my Dad work geophysical all his life traveling town to town, sometimes we would only be in a town 2 days and we pulled a small trailer with us, i guess it was in my blood. Maybe that's why i love camping so much.

I also feel if a person is doing what makes them happy then they are doing the right thing.
