Hi all, I'm planning on spending my Spring Break breaking in my new hammock by camping in a National or State park for a few days. I'm located in NJ and don't mind driving a bit, so any parks east of the Mississippi are fair game.
Ideally I'd love to just tie up my hammock between two trees near a nice warm beach and just relax, are there any such parks that allow this? My Spring Break is the week of March 16th to the 22nd, a park that is nice and warm during this time would be great. Or if any of you have any hammock-camping experiences, I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!
Florida allows it. Kinda. They officially do, but some rangers will give you crap.
I'd actually suggest going over to hammockforums.com and asking there . I stay north - I can tell you some great parks in the Green or White Mountains, but that's probably not great for mid March
March is unlikely to be warm anywhere in the country, except for Hawaii and the southern end of Florida. Both of those areas have the beaches that you want.
I am unsure about slinging a hammock between trees. I suspect a ranger will be by to make you take it down because of potential damage to the bark of the tree. Damaging bark has the potential to kill a tree. But, I've never tried to tie a hammock to trees in a state park, so I don't know that for sure.
I would try the Florida Keys, about the only place east of the Mississippi this winter where the odds are in your favor that it will be warm.... But without making reservations long ago the chances of finding an open site will be slim to none...... The state parks in Florida work off an 11 month system meaning you can book 11 months out..... So if that's something you want to do try booking this April for next years spring break
