I would also attend an RV show. The bigger the better.

The Tampa one is awesome. I used to go every year. It is like Disney for RVs. You can't see it all in one day.

Just for curiosity I Googled trailer transport. The internet is clogged with ads from companies that will move a trailer for you. So, it turns out that is an option.

Dark side for Millenials who watch glamorous videos and jump into the lifestyle. Most RV parks aren’t in urban areas and don’t have urban amenities. There is usually no Starbucks, Wholefoods, or nightclub within walking distance of the RV Park. In fact, the trendy “day out” might be driving 45 minutes to the closest Walmart.

I'm not a Millennial (far from it), but that's another concern; my main goal in RVing would be to find my ideal retirement beach destination and property, so obviously I'd have to be "near the action" to check it out and get the vibe there. My ambition isn't to randomly roam around, parking just anywhere, simply to be living in an RV; in that, I guess I differ from most RVers.

I’m an RVer and I don’t stay in mine simply to be in an RV. My husband and I take off to places we want to see to stay and the RV is a luxurious and flexible way to do so and to travel in great comfort. The RV is a means to an end.

I guess my question is, does it have to be an RV? We pay a lot for comfort in this country but I've lived out of a car before and slept in a tent for months and it was fine. It's true we had some bad nights but most were fine and the bad ones weren't horrible, just uncomfortable. I guess I'd better add that we were on a RTW trip at the time and Oz and NZ had some fantastic campgrounds.

In a couple of months I'm getting ready to set out in a truck with a camper shell and will put a mattress back there and bathe out of a bucket or use solar/campground showers. I've done it before and can do it again. Also, I feel that it will be easier to find free camping when in a plain old truck than in an RV. I'll probably put some mesh over the camper shell windows that I can see thru but others can't. DM me if you want.

Funny you should ask. I was initially considering a cargo van - then a compact city cargo van - conversion, but -- if it's going to be full-time living for months and years on end rather than just traveling -- obviously the RV (small travel trailer set up like a tiny house) is more conducive to comfort for my pets and myself...

Sure it's not for everybody, but to refer to the pitfalls as the "dark side" seems a bit dramatic.

Because, again, all you ever hear and see on these sites is the sunny side (as if it's all peaches and cream). If portrayals were more realistic and balanced, I wouldn't frame it so "dramatically."
