For bread, make a mix of Bannock. You just mix it with water and you can wrap it on a stick to cook over a fire, or put it into a frying pan if you take one.

I guess I would just see how light your gear actually is. I have a "car camping" tent (heavy) but people who backpack usually buy super light tents.

No advice here other than to say I've been to Dry Tortugas National Park and its gorgeous and a really neat experience.

Good luck...have fun!

Here's an interesting fact...only 1% of people that have ever been to a National Park have ever been to Dry Tortugas!

No need for light stuff here. Can easily carry anything the 50 yards or so from the dock to the camping site.

This is my mentality more than the weight of my gear.

It's going to be early December so it will be dark around 5:30. In case it gets chilly (relatively speaking), I want a very comfortable air mattress, blankets and pillows.

I want my beach chair.

I want a couple of good lanterns.

I want one of those solar showers that the sun heats up the water by day so I can rinse off (in my bathing suit) before I crawl in my bed.

I want a nice tequila (Clase Azul) before I go to sleep.

I want a nice meal.

Some of the ideas have been really helpful and I really appreciate EVERYONE's input!

1. Buy a Tent That Is Big Enough
2. Make (and Use) a Checklist
3. Arrive at the Campground Early
4. Bring Sufficient Clothing
5. Avoid Severe Weather
