Pros? Cons? What's the weather really like? Is it good for families or would Vancouver Island be better (as far as schools, etc.). Just curious, been wondering about Saltspring for a while now. My wife and I have tossed around moving to Canada for the last few years. Not sure if we will are not, it's a huge decision and we have a few places around here in Washington we really like too, but still consider a few places in BC as an option.

Thanks for any info!

There is no comparison between Salt Spring and Vancouver Island. One is tiny, the other is huge. Personally with kids I would go for Vancouver Island so you don't spend your time waiting in ferry lines to take your kids to activities and doctors etc. (god knows how emergencies are handled there). Perosnally I don't like the weather either place (I lived on Vancouver Island for 4 years) but I believe that winters in Victoria are better (less dismal).

You'll want Vancouver Island. Saltspring has NOTHING. More for living there after you're retired and you want solitude. Your children will have an amazing time in the Victoria area.

Thank you for feedback. Sounds like if BC is our destination of choice, Vancouver Island would be the way to go. Really interested in a couple of places here in Washington too, but still keeping all options open. Thanks again!

Just a question if I may. Why would you move from Wa to BC? I think that the Olympic peninsula is as beautiful as most of Van island is. Of course the city of Victoria is just beautiful if you want city that is. How about this for an idea. Move to Point Roberts. You are still in the USA but you are really in the lower mainland of BC. LOL. If I was a Yank that's where I'd go until I found that little piece of heaven to locate permanent to.

I've thought about living there before. In Point Roberts, that is. Beautiful little place. My great-great grandparents first stepped foot on American soil in Point Roberts when they came over from Iceland. My great-grandfather was raised there. My grandfather was also raised there. I've been there many times in my life and love it there, but I don't know if it's the best place for me at this point in time.

We have considered a move to BC simply because we've liked it up there on trips. Always seemed clean and friendly up there. But as I said, there are a few places around here too that we really like. We'll most likely end up in Eastern Washington as it is right now, but I don't think a move north of the boarder has been completely ruled out yet.
