I don't think so, but I wanted to double check. It's one of the most revolting aspects about America to say the Exxon Mobil has the same rights as John Doe.

I was talking to my son, whp is a lawyer about this last night. In some respects we regard corps as persons and in other respects we don't.

If you look at the history of America, in many ways it has always been a corporate venture. See the london company, or the virginia company of london. I don't know if Canada is the same. Is it?

Hudson's Bay Company might be the same as the companies (which I haven't heard of before) you mentioned. It was the de facto government.

That is interesting. Then why do I have the impression that the corporate mentality is so much more a part of the fabric of the American culture and not as much in Canada. Is that a misperception on my part?

Hey folks, you've misunderstood the original question.

The OP was asking is corporations in Canada were legally regarded as separate entities akin to a person like they are in the US.

Not a lawyer, but I believe for the most part they are. Also, as in the US, a corporation's directors can be held (personally) responsible for some of the decisions they took on behalf of the corporation.

Apparently yes | Natural versus Artificial Person | Canada | Link below

Whenever you read any Law or Statute, you must be sure to check the meaning of the word "person" as it applies to that particular law.

In order to implement slavery of it's citizens and control them according to its whim, the Government had to invent a system that would not violate a human-being's fundamental rights, but would allow the Government to "own" everything produced or gained by its citizens.

The technique used by the Government was to create an artificial-person (referred to herein as a CORPORATION for emphasis) for every human-being in Canada. As creator of a CORPORATION, the Government can demand anything it wants from the CORPORATION. As a legal entity, a CORPORATION does not have feelings and cannot be hurt. It can be subject to slavery and complete domination by its creator and the CORPORATION must obey its creator.
