There is a recent surge of online videos featuring 'polite' Canadians on racist rants against people of colour. These 'caught on film' incidents range from disgusting to worrisome.
The U.N. has called treatment of indigenous people in Canada a genocide, and now we are seeing more and more of these racist incidents.
Yet just a few days ago Jagmeet Singh was barred from Parliament for suggesting a Quebec politician engages in racism. Also this month, Ontario and Quebec premiers both made statements doubting the existence of racism in their respective provinces.
Is this 'don't talk about it' mentality the right way to go about things, or are we due for a national conversation?
It seems like the usual reactions to racism in Canada fall under one of three categories:
1. Blame Quebec
2. "That doesn't happen here, that happens in America"
3. 'Sweep it under the rug', sugarcoat it, as if a one-off incident
Are things getting worse, or is it the availability of smartphone cameras that are making incidents more well-documented?

This true, and tiresome.
Quebec has contributed more to Canada than any other province, and yet we still tolerate this ridiculous idea that we are somehow, as a nation, more racist than Anglo Canada:
Yes, the ones who put people into segregated schools, exterminated the First Nations, and deemed Quebecois "white n****s" are truly a beacon of tolerance.
Unfortunately there are many examples of this kind of stuff on this forum.
IIRC someone was continually calling Quebecois 'Pepsi's' in a few different threads.
There was also a black British poster a few years ago (Maybe 2016-17) who I was in frequent communication with, and he showed me a number of messages he received telling him to stay out of Canada, using the N word, and telling him to go to the US where his people belong.
It really came as a shock to him since he had been sold the impression of Canada being a little more welcoming than that.

Did he report those messages to the forum moderators? If not, why not? It's what recipients of harassment are supposed to do. It's a bannable offense for forum members to send harassing private messages like that and the messages aren't invisible or anonymous to moderators if they are reported, they can be investigated and dealt with.

.
Yup, I agree. It’s called consequences. When there are no consequences, bad behavior tends to continue... and grow worse.
Unfortunately, I expect these kind of encounters to become worse as time goes by. When you hire staff who have trouble communicating in English, confrontations are likely to ensue.
I do find this kind of behaviour utterly disgusting, but at the same time I see the root cause of it.
