Is this region of far Northern Quebec as remote as Northeastern Siberia is?
I know the term "remote" is hard to define overall, but for argument sake, lets define it as the furthest you could likely travel from the nearest person, permanent settlement, man made structure, road or railway.
How does this area compare to the Sahara or Amazon in terms of isolation?
Northern Quebec and Nunavut have mainly isolated Inuit settlements accessible only by air or boat. Siberia has more economic activity (mainly mining) with roads, towns and cities.
How does this area compare to the Sahara or Amazon in terms of isolation?
To get from point A to point B the people in Nunavik use boats, planes, snowmobiles and dog sleds and some other types of motorized vehicles in some communities.
How do people in the Sahara or Amazon get around from point A to point B?
It's probably more remote then those other locations. The Amazon and Siberia have more mining and energy extraction, while the Sahara has long been crisscrossed by large numbers of nomadic traders moving between the big cities on either end of the desert. Northern Quebec is more remote then any of those.
Nunavut (Torngat Mountains) require tour groups to be escorted by an armed guard because of the polar bears. Spectacular scenery and fascinating geology but unarmed people are not at the top of the food chain there.
I flew up to Schefferville, Caniapiscau, and (over) Nitchequon this past July and had the time of my life visiting up there! Didn't technically make it to Nunavik since Schefferville and Caniapiscau are at 54.9 deg lat, but close enough. Even put together an extensive travelogue about it.
