Next time you visit ANY city, whether it's in the USA or abroad, make sure you know where you are, the level of crime in that part of town, and don't be out walking around at midnight. Crime happens after dark just about anywhere you go.
There are plenty of countries with much higher statistical crime rates than the US that I will be happy to visit. The US is still a very safe country to visit.

As have I in that very same area this guy was killed. The Kentucky Horse Park has a very nice RV Park/Resort and used to be one of our first stops on our way south for the winter while still RV'ing.
Thought nothing of walking around after dark to visit friends also migrating south.
Be careful of absolutes. Your next walk might be a very different experience, as the odds would dictate in Toronto

Have you also read about the travel warning issued by Canada for the areas of Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara? Canadians go there in droves.

Sorry, but why should we -- no matter where we live or visit -- accept the fact that there are still parts of North American where we have to be vigilant against falling prey to our fellow man? He came from a place where it's relatively safe to do what he was doing, and this was after a "civilized" event attended by 170,000 people. Don't blame the victim for being shot while being robbed by three thugs...
