Thank you so much to all Canadian service people, living and deceased. I will never forget.
Dad died in Ottawa (after residing briefly at the Perley) 4 years ago today at the age of 95. He was a British Navy veteran but became a Canadian citizen in the 1950s. No matter where I am, I wear a poppy today each year. Je me souviens.
In Flander's Fields by John McCrae -
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
I am very sorry Aery11 about your father. He and all the Veterans and soldiers of today are heroes. I like to thank all the men and women who served and serve in our Canadian military. I am aware for all the sacrifices you made and make for us to live the good life we do. You will never be forgotten. May God bless and protect you all.Je n'oublierai jamais.
“Silently, one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven,
Blossomed the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the angels.”
― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie
Jambo; very sorry to hear of your father's passing. The world has lost one more of a generation of people who were determined to make it a better place and were prepared to wager the maximum to do so.

My group of pub buddies were talking about this. We are part of the last generation that actually knew people who fought in the Second World War, and the First World War in which my great uncles fought in.
On a positive note, one friend who is an elementary school teacher said that they still teach the kids what Remembrance Day is all about, plus they still have a special assembly where the kids pay honour to the veterans.
I was kind of struck by this. I was under the impression people were forgetting.

I am very sad to hear about your father passing away at this time four years ago. Bless his heart.
(((Jambo))) I am so sorry to hear that your father has passed over. Please accept my sincere condolences to you and to your family.
I know that there is little I can say to relieve your pain...but I do believe that he is in good company on the other side.
It's hard to lose a parent.
