I never attended any pride events or even really paid attention to anything to do with this month. I have no idea about any activities going on in my city. I might look into it this time.

Are any of you attending any events? What is the best way to celebrate? Are there any activities for families?

Not all Pride events are 'family' oriented. However, usually the main event or of any Pride festivities be it day long, week long or in the case of a city with a large gay population like Toronto - a month long is the Pride Parade. It is the anchor event for pretty much any gay pride. In that parade it is not unusual to see many families partaking in the event. I've actually collected beads that people throw in the crowd for kids and give it to them. Everyone has a great time and it is FUN and welcoming event for one and all.

Don't worry - if a kid is gay and grows up as a gay person - taking them to a Pride event won't seal the deal - they are what they are in spite of 'gay' influences....

There are many family events?
Why would there not be?
This is a sad reminder that some people still might not get that that someone's sexual orientation does not define much else about them.
Why would members of the LBGT community not want and have events that were kid and family friendly.
I have brought my daughter with me to Pride events.
I have seen many kids and families at Pride events.
I think it is important to have kids and these events.
It send the message of inclusion.

If anyone goes through the Toronto Pride event website there are so many different types of diverse styles of events.

Some are more:
political
social
party
family
awareness
education
spiritual

There are many different events and people can choose events to go to that are suited to their interests and style.

I really encourage people to try to step outside of their comfort zones and try to attend events for different groups ex LBGT, cultural, social, religious etc.

It is really gives a all a better understanding of what it is like to walk-in-someone else's shoes while being educational and fun.

I don't know what ALL the Gay Pride events involve in Portland, but they do put on a long parade through downtown. One year my elder, very conservative, brothers were here for a visit and I took them to downtown Portland. I didn't know about the Pride parade (I live in the burbs and don't go to Portland much), but when I realized what it was I think I said a little prayer. Brothers both thought it was fun. Nothing inappropriate but then there was the trailer with a fully nude woman standing up and waving to the crowd. The old farts liked that.

As the British Actor Robert Morley said years ago..I'm paraphrasing.

When people hear the word homosexual, all they hear is sex.
