As seen in
this very touching report, it seems to me that the number of Humboldt Broncos players on the bus (involved in that deadly April crash) that had stable girlfriends seems to vastly outnumber those who were single (or who had girlfriends, but not in long or stable relationships), despite the boys being only 18-20. We're talking about 17 girlfriends and 23 hockey players who were killed or injured.
What's the reason for this? Is it perhaps because in this case (the Humboldt area in rural Saskatchewan) we're talking about a small, tight-knit, and perhaps even conservative community, as opposed to urban and often more liberal settings like Montreal or Toronto, in which a much larger number of 18-20 year old guys (even heterosexuals) don't have stable girlfriends? Or is it that most 18-20 year old guys have girlfriends, no matter what setting?
