Alaska was horrible but Washington State not so bad.

"Bad" is a relative term--can a person go for a half-mile walk during the summer and not get attacked? Alaska no--- Washington yes... Nova Scotia????

They are in Nova Scotia... it depends on whether you live near standing water and recent rains... but I cannot say whether they are worse or better than Alaska.

BTW, June is *black fly* month, if I remember correctly. They are a pain. They don't hurt as badly as the mosquitoes, but they make you bleed out a lot.

Totally agree with you on that. Blackflies bit and can be in great density.

LOL I don't like flying, biting insects--I think I'll take SW Washington State instead. It would be for a summer home and May-June would be torment as I am outside in wooded places often. In Washington State they complain too- about wild blackberries all over the place. "Invasive".. Fine, but they taste great and I'd rather be the "eater"than the eaten..
