Zortation can correct me if I'm wrong about this but I think the topic got side-tracked to some things that are not really relevant to the actual question being asked in OP. The impression I got from the original post, the question being asked was not about what Canada will do for energy in a post-fossil fuel Canada.

The question was essentially - how will Canada manage financially in a post-fossil fuel civilization? The real issue is more like, what will Canada sell as a trade resource on the global market to bolster the Canadian economy and bring the dollars in when fossil fuel dollars aren't coming in and fossil fuels are no longer a trade item in big demand on the global market?

Yes, and my reply about Quebec was twofold: Canada will rely more on Quebec's massive hydro-electricity production for both, use, and trade. New York already purchases much of it as an energy resource.
Once fossil-fuels become near-obsolete, I'm thinking the rest of the country might just have a light-bulb moment and realize that Hydro-Quebec could save the economy.

I agree that hydro-electricity exports from Canada will be having more importance as a trade resource in the future. I know that British Columbia and Alberta have been exporting electricity to some of the western United States for several years. According to Canada's National Energy Board (NEB), Canadian electricity exports to the U.S. west coast more than doubled between 2010 and 2016. Increased demand from California is the primary driver of the trend, exports to California increased from 2.3 terawatt hours (TW.h) in 2010 to 10.7 TW.h in 2016. Electricity sold to California represents 15% of total Canadian power exports. The majority of that electricity is hydro-electricity from British Columbia. In 2010, 43% of the electricity exported from B.C. went to California. In 2016, 79% of B.C. electricity exports went to California.

I have no doubts that in a post-fossil fuel era the exports of Canadian hydro-electricity will be increasing, as well as being expanded to many more states besides the ones that Canadian provinces are presently exporting it to.
