Was it eerie to go about in certain Canadian cities and not find a film crew at work?
Not the case where I live in the Fraser Valley. It's still business as usual. There's a studio and all the trailers and generators two blocks away from my residence where they're doing some late shooting right now, and some crews have their 'stuff' set up in a few outdoor locations elsewhere in my town as well. I sure don't envy them their jobs working outdoors at present, the weather is nasty wet windy out there.
I don't know what's been going on in the production scene in metro Vancouver or other cities elsewhere in Canada though, haven't paid any attention.

I couldn't tell you. I have no idea what's going on elsewhere. But the studio and crews here have been busy. Not as much as before February of course but still there's been some kind of productions going on through the year.
I'll give you an example. The new mystery/thriller series that premiered on TV last night "Big Sky" - which is supposed to be set in Montana in accordance with the C.J Box book it's based on (The Highway) - the entire production including all the outdoor location shooting has been happening here in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows since early summer. We have the right kind of outdoor scenery here to simulate Montana, not even Montanans would notice any difference. Location hunts and set ups here started in the spring and they've now produced at least 3 of the autumn/winter episodes that I know of and are still working here right now on future episodes, including the continuing new episodes that will be presented after New Year.
I think they have been filming recently in Cantley QC. Acajack may know?
Probably in Montreal too, but I couldn't find information about Quebec other than there's a studio in Montreal currently has 6 separate productions happening (but I know Montreal has other studios too), and that no fighting, kissing or close physical contact are allowed in any current productions anywhere in Quebec.
There are 29 movies and TV shows currently filming in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario.
And there are 55 currently in production in Vancouver and surrounding metro districts - that also includes any towns over on Vancouver Island and up the mainland coast around Squamish.

Yes, I don't think I wrote about it here but I had two close encounters with the production of Fatman (starring Mel Gibson) last winter.
It's a Christmas flick and some of the outdoor shots were done in Cantley, which is a hilly exurban municipality right next to Gatineau. They also going did some shooting in Ottawa.
On Friday night in February I was driving on the main road in Cantley (giving one of my kids a ride to a friend's) and I met a convoy of about a dozen large RV trailers going down the highway. At 10 pm on winter night in Cantley? They all turned onto the same road, going up into the hills. Then I saw this article:
A couple of weeks later I was skating on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa and I stumbled upon a crew and a movie set that was all set up as if for a Christmas time political rally for an American politician, complete with American flags, bunting, etc.
There were signs on that segment of the canal warning people that it was a film set, and to stay away if they didn't want to accidentally appear in the movie.

TV and movie production has most definitely resumed in Montreal, but it's more of home-grown scene than those in Toronto and Vancouver.
