At clerical level I dont know but in my company too works from BC Canada is still on higher scale than other region.

Why don't people realize that Canada's economy depends on the health of the US economy significantly, this is particularly true for Ontario. When the US economy is bad, the Americans consume less product (cars, oil etc), and the Canadian economy is bound to suffer. However, there is always lagging effect which caused the slowdown to happen later.
Yes, the US employment rate is quite high, however, that in no way means it is easier to find a job in your area in Canada than in the US. The reason being Canadian employers are less likely to fire people than the Americans due to the powerful existence of unions and the relative importance of the public sector. A result is that they are probably equally unlikely to be hiring when economy is not so good.
An ultimate problem with the Canadian economy is that Canada is too happy with just producing for the US and ingore the rest of the world (Asia-Pacific for example). Canada always has this "I am the little brother of the US" syndrome. Well, it is time to look elsewhere and diversify. Uncle Sam won't reward you for loyalty when things go bad.

People do realize that, however, they don't want to admit it.

Yes, I also realize that whenever this topic is brought up (economic and cultural dependence), people suddenly stop talking.

Anyway, I believe Harper did a stunning job in worsening its relationship with other economic powers such as China. Refusing to attend the Olympic and meeting Dalai lama to show his care about human rights? Mr H is just kidding himself by pretending to be some sort of saint. Even a country as powerful as the US is smart and cautious enough not to do that. Mr. Sarkozy vexed Beijing by meeting Dalai Lama too last year, guess what happened, businesses such as Carrefour suffered considerably and several multi-billion dollar orders were cancelled, and the government eventually had to give some sort of apology to improve the situation and to please the business titans.

I guess Harper still lives in his own fantasy thinking "as long as we have the US as our friend, we will be fine", not realizing the US, as big as it is, is weakening. Sticking to the old rule of producing solely for the big brother will some day cease to work.
