Default us carpenter and the LMO

I am an American carpenter married 10 years to a Canadian girl . We lived in the us along the ny ontario border untill recently ,I have been working on and off in different countries for several years and my wife wanted to be back in her home town close to her family. so while I was away we bought a house in ontario . I am back now and living in the states while staring the whole process of immigration . I have a job offer in ontario but it is not backed by a labor market opinion , my question is twofold; first has anyone jumped through the hoops as a carpenter and the skilled workers program , and is this this the quickest way to start work on the canadian side. I know by looking at the information on the CIC web site things are going to take some time , I am hoping that there is someone out there who has been my boots and can share some experience. thanks.
