So my breast cancer was in 2008 and I had a total mastectomy taking out 11 lymph nodes, all cancer free. I had no radiation or chemo but did have reconstruction soon after.

My question is, after I stopped taking Femoral after 4 years, I didn't see any need to see an oncologist any more. I have regular yearly ultrasound and mammo with no concerns. My PCP does a yearly breast exam. Do I need to continue seeing an oncologist or not???

Anyone? I cannot believe there is no one on here who has had breast cancer. How unusual....

I'm coming up to my three year cancerversary very soon. I know my oncologist plans on seeing me for a long time. He wants to make sure I'm getting mammograms on my remaining natural breast, and he also does bloodwork checking for certain cancer markers. He asks questions and checks me to make sure I'm not having any symptoms of metastatic cancer; for example he always feels my spine.

I can't say whether or not you still need to see an oncologist. It may depend on the specific type of breast cancer you had. You might want to ask your primary care provider.
