I read every word. Apparently you didn't, because she never mentioned melanoma in her first post. Not. even. once.

False.

I already have anxiety and OCD really bad, so this is very hard for me.
That's from her first post.

Look, I don't want to argue. Most people who post in the Cancer forum are sensitive to the emotions that run high when someone is looking for reassurance. We've all been there, scared out of our minds.

Skin cancer != melanoma. The mole that was biopsied might not even be skin cancer at all.

of course it may not be anything: that is what I and a few others are saying. When someone says they are worried about something on their skin the first thought most people have is: melanoma, not other forms of cancer. It is natural for someone to want to try and put that person's mind at ease as much as possible

I seriously doubt that "most" people know the difference among the various types of skin cancer. All they know is that they should wear high SPF suntan lotion so that they don't get "skin cancer." I doubt they become aware of the terms basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma until they have to get biopsied.

Well here in the skin cancer capital of the world (Australia and New Zealand) we all talk about BCCs and SCCs and melanomas. And it is common knowledge and practice that if treatment is prompt, all will be well. My mother, at the age of 88, had a BCC removed from her face. Considering her age, the result and lack of scarring was incredible. Norway, would you believe, has a high rate of skin cancer, probably as the population are not in the habit of checking their skin. There is little to worry about if you make sure you check and follow up any problems.

That may be true down under, but that hasn't been my experience in the USA. My sister has had an SCC, my father has had BCCs, and I was diagnosed with melanoma last year, so my family unfortunately is well-versed in the various skin cancers. However, it has been my experience in talking with people through the years that all they know is one phrase: skin cancer.

Sometimes it's not that easy to check. My melanoma was on my scalp and was only discovered after all my hair fell out during chemotherapy treatments last year for unrelated non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. (Yes, I was a two-time winner last year, lol.)

Yes, you were lucky. My friend had one on her scalp that her hairdresser recommended she have checked out. A German friend found she had a melanoma on her leg when she was having surgery for something else. At that stage, she was completely unaware of skin cancer. Unfortunately now after many years here she has monthly skin checks and at least all continues to be well.

The sun here, together with a large heritage background from Scotland and Ireland, results in many of us looking years older than we are. Very unfortunately!!

About 5 years ago I had a small nodule on my nose and the doc said it looked like a "milia" Fast forward to this year, that same thing on my nose caused me to go back. I told him I wanted him to take it off and I was tired of looking at it. He said he could not take it off. I asked why? He said I needed a biopsy.

I did not give it much thought after that (because you don't believe you could possibly have cancer) but then I went in and he told me it was skin cancer. BCC type. I had to have MOHS (skin cancer removal surgery) and they did that while I was awake.

The good thing is that if you have skin cancer, BCC won't usually kill you but could disfigure you as they need (cut) to go deeper. depending on the margins. If it is melanoma, that one can kill you. I knew an attorney who got melanoma and in 6 months he was dead.

Mine never irritated me, never hurt, never bothered but it did grow and I hated that thing on my nose. (more to me a nusciance and a cosmetic embarassement) I am not sure how many have skin cancer where it hurts? If yours hurts, maybe it's something else besides cancer? How did the biopsy go?

My MIL had MOHS for basal cell. Two years later you could not even tell. Her nose looked perfectly normal.

Yes! I have no scar (not like some of the pictures I have seen) Just a darker discoloration where they removed the cancer but every day it's getting better. I had mine in August (surgery).
