I have read insurers will waive your deductible to have your glass rock chip repaired.

Is this true, and if so, why?

Also, AAA Northern California will pay for your auto glass repair, minus $50. I could have saved $300 if I had known, from two windshield replacements over the years.

Depends on the state law. Florida, Kentucky, and South Carolina waive deductibles for windshield replacement.

Thanks notnamed! What I meant is if you ask nicely, don't most insurers in the other states waive glass deductibles? I read thgat in an article the other day.

For chips many insurers will waive the deductible when you have a epoxy repair done, my insurer uses SafeLite but there may be others.

I've had it done to two vehicles and both were undetectable unless you knew exactly where to look.

Depends on your state, and your carrier!

I can saw that for in Illinois and Indiana Glass coverage is optional on most policies, but will vary by carrier. Usually glass coverage will be covered for a zero deductible, others will charge $50.

No, not even if you ask nicely. It all boils down to your policy terms.

I went through so many windshields (five different cars in a six month period, one was twice) several years ago that my insurer refused to renew with my then low deductible.

State Farm used to pay for it, but stopped about 10 years ago.

Asking nicely won’t change your coverage and what the carrier offers. There are many companies that will repair or replace glass without any deductible, not even $50....Erie, Travelers , AAA and Geico. I’m sure there’s others, but it also depends on your state. Some offer this coverage automatically and some it’s an optional coverage you must add to your policy BEFORE damage occurs.

My father had a rock chip repair done under his glass coverage. There was no deductible, but they raised his rate the following year a few hundred bucks at renewal time because that was a considered a claim. Had he known, he would have paid the $50 himself to have the repair done.

So, keep that in mind. This was with Farmers' insurance. YMMV.

My current State Farm policy in CT has "D-WG Comprehensive" coverage, with 0 deductible for glass
