This summer I made a mistake of driving in a lane that was for buses only from 6am to 6pm and got a ticket. My car and motorcycle both with progressive has jumped about 38%

I went to get new car rates and Progressive is still the cheapest but seriously bummed about something so light getting me a big insurance jump.

Question is after I the 2 point violation falls off in 2.5 more years will Progressive deduct the rate to my old rate or am I stuck in the penalty zone forever.

The surcharge stays only as long as the citation appears on the motor vehicle license history report that the insurance company orders. The experience period for minor violations is typically 3 years, 5 years for major violations (DUI, Reckless, etc).

I suggest you shop around at every renewal and not wait it out.

As the citation gets older (without any new ones) more insurance companies may be inclined to give you competitive rates.

It depends on your state. In some states, records go back 10 years. In other states 5. Some companies only go back 3 years. In some states, insurers are required to disregard anything that's 36 months old.

What state are you in?

Progressive goes back 36 months on tickets in Washington.

I know you said that Progressive is the cheapest you could get, but are you sure? Did you check:

Austin Mutual?
Pemco Insurance?
Safeco?
Oregon Mutual?
Mapfre?
Grange Insurance?
MetLife Auto?
Enumclaw?

I have tried

Pemco
Dairyland
State Farm
Geico
And independent agent who has multiple carriers to choose from and she was not where close to Progressive.

Bottom line is my 2 pt ticket is a major pita for me. So I have no choice to be stay put.

I'm quite surprised as well. Progressive used to have really good rates, but they have skyrocketed the last few years. It could be a combination of your ticket and a company rate increase in your area. Plus, they might have re-run your credit. If you had good credit when you first started with them, but now you don't that will affect your rates significantly! Most policies wouldn't go up that much over just a ticket.

I suggest finding another independent agent. They all offer different carriers and there's a TON out there! If you look hard enough you will find a lower rate elsewhere. Just make sure it's with a good company and not some crappy Eagle Man insurance!

A few more you could try,if they are offered in your State:

Mercury
AAA
Travelers
Safeco
Liberty Mutual

Take the AAA course and send the certificate to your insurance company. That will drop your rate a bit.
