My mother is moving into a cottage at a Continuing Care Facility! We never thought we'd see this day. We've been discussing this for years. Mom fought us tooth and nail. She got paranoid and accused my brother of plotting to move her against her will. We had to give up on anything that had to do with clearing out the house.

My dad passed away in October, she almost immediately started vaguely talking about things to do to get the house ready to sell. We didn't give it much credit as she talks a lot of smack but never takes action.

Last month she Brought up this CCC again, suddenly she was complaining that I had always resisted taking a look at it (???) then she took my brother and SIL down there again. They just happened to have a vacancy and a week later the deal was done!!! She closes on it on July 23. We think she has finally decided her declining mobility (she is now using a walker and can't stand up straight) and her declining kidney function have scared her enough that she knows she can't drive or live alone much longer. She got a unit very close to the dining room where she will eat once a day.

We are now trying to negotiate the waters of realtors and senior move specialists. She loved the first realtor she met. She hated the first SMS she met. Now she is mixing up who provides what service; she thinks the realtor's 'truck and some college guys' is on the same level as the senior move service, and that if she hires the realtor she can't hire a different move specialist. We are scrambling to put the pieces into place from a distance.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Oh, oh, oh, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!! What exciting news and what a relief to you and your family this move will be!

My dad passed away in October too, and we recently moved my mom to a Senior Living apartment. We put her house on the market and it was under contract at full list price in three days! We just closed on it. I can't tell you how relieved I am to have that albatross off my neck!!!!!!!!!

It's tough getting them moved in and getting the house cleaned out but once it's done, it's done! And it WILL be done one day, sooner than you think. CONGRATS.
