I supplement my homemade raw chicken diet with Weruva canned food. I had a very rude awakening today when my food order came in from Pet Food Online | Dog & Cat Supplies & Products | PetFoodDirect.com. I bought Outback Grill, which is supposedly "exotic Australian seafood" and Marbella Paella, which is supposed to be from Spain. The boxes that the food came in, on the bottom in big bold letters said PRODUCT OF THAILAND. It alalso states on each can product of Thailand.

If you don't believe me, here are the two links where I bought this food. And about the Outback Grill..... The description lately has been changed for all I read was Red-Eyed Salmon. In my excitement, I bought the food, and then to my dismay after reading the ingredients, TUNA was the FIRST ingredient listed.

Weruva Polynesian BBQ with Grilled Red Big Eye Canned Cat Food | PetFoodDirect.com

Weruva Marbella Paella with Calamari, Shrimp & Mussels Canned Cat Food | PetFoodDirect.com

I am trying to make you aware that even the best food, or supposedly the best food for felines, can be misleading unless you read the fine print.

Don't know about for cats/dogs, but I won't eat any fish/shrimp from anywhere in Asia. I've seen some disgusting documentaries about the water filth over there, for commercially farmed fish/shrimp. Even seafood from the Gulf is cleaner than theirs. I can't imagine that they would treat pet food fish/shrimp any better than they treat fish/shrimp for human consumption.

Yes, that is exactly how I feel too, and when I found out that these products are from Thailand.......the air went out of my lungs. Man oh man alive! Weruva is saying the fish is either from Australia or Spain! Neither is Thailand! So, what is the real truth????

Here I am trying to do the ultimate best for my cats, and I am buying something from Thailand, food no less? That is why I posted this because I know people here think VERY highly of Weruva!!

Thanks for posting the info, Garden. I've run into a few similar situations myself... assuming a particular brand is a good one... then all the flavors must be as well. Not always the case. *sigh*

I am deliberately bumping this up. I don't want this missed, for it contains valuable information IF you are feeding your cat Weruva brand cat food, as I am.

At this point I am so torn. My eyes see heath coming in and shiny coats and glistening eyes. The combination of my homemade raw with the fish is what is doing this.

SO!!! How in the world do we get away from potentially MERCURY poisoned fish???? How can you tell IF your cat is getting mercury poison???

Working on feline diet for years, this is a real blow to me. Again, I am looking at the first page, empty of course, and I don't know what to do. Your feedback here would be greatly appreciated!!!

I think I may be coming to a decision here regarding the dilemma of the Thailand deception. I call a spade a spade........

Even though I just spent $400 on canned food.......

I am seriously thinking.....

No more canned food, that is CAT canned food. And I just read on page 20 of, "The Rave Diet & Lifestyle" that any omega-3 supplements are, and I quote, "composed of highly unstable molecules which decompose and unleash dangerous cancer-causing agents (free-radicals), and cause damage to cells that can lead to cancer. Such fats also suppress natural killer cells and the production of immune substances, which are important not only for cancer protection, but protection against viruses, bacteria and parasites". The author compares the intake of oils to an oil slick in our bloodstream!

Where am I going with this???

Salmon oil, high in omega-3, is one of the ingredients, a supplement, listed to make the raw diet for felines.

And now I come facing the fact that the fish I have been feeding my cats is produced in Thailand.

SO!!! I have decided to STOP adding the fish oil to the raw diet, and buy human grade salmon for my cats to eat! Yes, more expensive!

BUT!!! I am not working my fanny off to get these cats well, only for CANCER to steal their health! Or, for them to die of mercury poisoning!

MY GOD! One has to have eyes in the back of the head these days to stay ahead of the lies, deceptions, and thievery in this world!

Can you go with canned salmon? That might be cheaper.
