I have 3 cats.

1 really friendly and mellow cream ginger cat.

1 deaf and friendly white cat.

1 slightly aggressive seal point cat.

They all seem to get along but I don't understand much about the dynamics between the white and seal cats.

White cat largely ignores seal cat but occassionally gets it into his head to stalk and pounce on her.

She, in turn, acts scared of him 100% of the time - she also growls at him - but of course he can't hear and never responds.

White cat never makes a sound in anger towards her - but does act out aggressively sometimes.

They NEVER touch noses the way my cream ginger cat does.

Anyway, the kicker?

They managed to get locked in a tiny space together - white and seal - and I found them sleeping quietly (not touching) I didn't hear any fighting nor growling - nothing to alarm me or alert me that they were trapped anywhere, let alone trapped with an enemy.

I can't fathom it.

It's like the white cat only feels aggressive when the seal can get away (or something)

Can anyone explain this?

When I came along to 'free' them only the white cat stretched and left, seal looked up and went back to sleep.

So not traumatised.

They are not friends and seal usually always acts scared - white still intimidates seal - he was doing it today even.

But then why did they behave calmly and relaxed when trapped together?

Cats are strange beings. I have a couple who would just as soon kill each other, most of the time, but when you least expect it I'll find them curled up together sound asleep. Just a love-hate relationship I guess.

You answered your own question. They were trapped, so decided to put animosity aside and get through it together. And their not touching as they snoozed is the clue-in that the solidarity was short-lived!
We humans do the same thing all the time (at least I do.) Another person might not be especially familiar or particularly liked. But if they experience an issue that I can help with, or vice versa, it's done. The classic '80s film "The Breakfast Club" was all about that.

You don't have to like someone to sleep next to them. I did it for years.

Do you think they really don't like each other, or is that just how they play? How long have they lived together, are they still getting accustomed to one another? That may take years honestly, especially if the white cat already has a BFF, and three's a crowd!

Think like sibling rivalry with kids goes... The older child may resent the baby, and act out to get attention/do things to blame on the baby and get the baby in "trouble" with motivation to be the "more loved" one, but deep inside when it matters (and someone is in "trouble") we know they really do love each other
