His eye was looking very strange, kind of cloudy and discolored. We took him to our vet and he was unable to tell what was wrong. Yesterday we took Haggie to a veterinary ophthalmologist and he diagnosed glaucoma, but that was only the secondary issue...the primary issue is still undiagnosed. The pressure in his eye was 78--normal is 15-25!

Today Haggie had enucleation surgery and the eye has been sent to a pathology lab out of state. The labs done prior to surgery show elevated calcium levels which sometimes indicate there is a tumor present. We had a blood sample sent off to a lab that can run more extensive tests.

Haggie is home now, but so miserable. He has a silicone prosthesis in the socket and the eyelid is stitched closed. He is wearing a cone. And to top everything off, they left an IV line in his leg which I had to remove myself.

This has been the week from hell.

Oh a week from hell indeed, poor little Haggie, I sure pray its not a tumor and the removal with settle the matter..
Just wanted to tell you about my Opus...(now deceased) when he was 14 his one eye suddenly became cloudy and turned a bright red, our Vet treated him for a few weeks with antinflammatories and antibiotic eye drops etc. and kept swabbing the eye..nothing showed up and his eye continued to be bright red. We finally got him into an ophthalmologist a few weeks later. he got poked and prodded by this specialist plus a heart specialist, it took a whole day of tests and seeing I think 4 doctors in total..to make a long story short for him it turned out to be high blood pressure and CRF...but by this time with all the pressure on his eye and decreased blood supply my poor boy ended up having to have it removed too.
He was a pretty miserable little boy for a few days...but he bounced back like a trouper, the eye socket healed real well and gave no further problems, we didn't opt for the prosthesis. so his eye socket was permanently sewn shut, once the hair grew back it didn't look so bad and we became used to our one eyed boy
With continual b/p checks and medication he lived for another 3 years..until he was 17.

I wish Haggie a swift recovery and some good news in days ahead...♥

Oh, that is great news! Thanks so much for posting. I just hate seeing him so miserable.

That IV line was a real pain in the butt to remove. When I called them and told the receptionist she neglected to put the call on hold while she told the doctor and I heard everything. Man, was he pissed...I hope the tech didn't lose her job.

It must be awful right now. I'm sure once he recovers from the surgery, he'll be just fine. Animals do so much better with things like that than many humans do. I guess it just doesn't occur to them not to accept it. You might not want to reach for him suddenly from his blind side without making a little noise, as it might startle him, but other than that he shouldn't have a problem. I hope he's feeling better very soon.

He seems to be feeling a bit better already. He took his meds without a fuss and even ate some food. I arranged some boxes to serve as a stairway up to his favorite windowsill. Now he is snoozing in his spot.

Poor baby boy. I'll echo the others and say that I hope he's back to himself very soon. I have seen one-eyed cats before, and they can adjust very well to life with only one eye. I know you will take good care of him and get him back on track.

Blessings and love to you and Haggie from MS!

Lucky Haggie! Nothing better than a pet parent that takes action and does the right thing.

Haggie will be good as new in no time.
