I'm asking for help trying to understand a new behavior in my cat.
Katie is 14 1/2 years old and has recently been showing signs of aging. She's been a great companion for many, many years.
She has always slept on my bed at night, usually spooning my legs on top of the covers. While I had one other cat who used to wake me up to feed him, she will let me sleep as long as I like in the morning without bothering me.
She will now sleep at the top of the bed, close to my head.
For the past three nights in a row, she has been waking me throughout the night by "patting" my scalp with her claws extended. Sometimes it is as if she is combing my hair with her claws. Last night this happened on three different occasions. No vocalization, just purring and patting me. This had happened occasionally before, but with three nights in a row, my sleep is now out of whack.
I have tried bringing her close to me so that I can pet her, but noticed last night once she moved, she started patting me again?
Everything seems normal, with her showing no obvious signs of distress.
