Now it's Flame Retardents and in cat food no less!!! (carpet, foods)

Can you imagine using this stuff when it causes thyroid disease in cats? And in's found in some cat food no less!!! What about the safety of infants and small children? I wonder if it's effecting them also.

The article is not very clear. Are the PBDEs being added to the cat food as an ingredient, or did some cat foods test positive because they are made out of seafood containing the chemicals? If they are adding the chemicals on purpose that is just idiotic, but since fish can accumulate PBDEs they could be the source of the contamination.

I'm guessing it's in some of the fish.

But man thinking about the whole lying all over carpet, upholstery, etc. then grooming is just really nasty. Not to mention putting a treat down on the floor for them, something that happens all the time. I know I've seen some writeups on those materials in carpet before and wondered about the effect on cats. It wasn't really a surprising conclusion, although I'm a little surprised that someone actually tallied up such a correlation.

However it gets in the cat food it's a scary thing to contemplate. And in carpeting and other furnishings - geeze, we can't live with no furnishing in our homes. We need sofas and mattresses and such things. Not only do I worry about my cats but what about myself and my loved ones. What of our children and grandchildren crawling on the floor and napping on our sofas and beds? The more I learn online the more I want to run away to some remote place and live on wild fruit and veggies.

But even there there is probably pollution blowing in on the wind.....
