Scooter's well named, though we can't take credit, he was our neighbors' kitten and was always escaping and running across the road to play with our puppy. Now he scoots out the door on a regular basis. We live in an apartment now and he usually heads for the bushes. Judy, his canine friend, will chase him and 'herd' him going to one end but it's impossible to grab him if he's in the hedge.
One day I realized, Scooter adores catnip. REALLY. So, I tried that. Works like a charm. He shoots out of the bush like it's on fire, LOL No more problem getting Scooter to come home
I know it won't work for all cats, I've read only about 80% of cats respond to catnip but if they do it's a great way to coax them home. I've used it on my other guys as well, they don't respond with Scooter's enthusiasm but they'll come close enough that I can grab them and bring them home. Whew!
Now all I need is to figure out how to get the dogs in/out without the sneaky kitty scooting out the door!
