Female 12 Years old. Diabetes 15 units of Lantus twice a day. My vet left the practice so I tried a new practice.

After speaking with the vet 3 times--she finally says your cat has high blood pressure. What took you so long to mention that? I don't believe she does.

But I went there today to get a copy of the blood results. The new Vet says she doesn't have any thyroid problems.

Can anyone interpret these Thyroid results?

Free T4 (ng/dL) result 2.5. Reference range 0.7--2.6 ng/dL)
Free T4 (pmol/L) result 32.2. Reference range 9.0--33.5 pmol/L).

Thanks.

Those are thyroid function tests. If the numbers fall between the numbers given in the reference range, it means the results are normal. A touch on the high side, but still within normal range.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is not the same thing as hyperthyroidism. I just wanted to make sure you're aware of that. Your post is a little confusing in that respect.

The standards for cat blood pressure are:

  • 150/95 – at this reading or below, there is minimal risk and treatment is not recommended
  • 150/99 to 159/95 -- intervention is rotuinely not recommended at these readings
  • 160/119 to 179/100 -- treatment should be sought to limit the risk of organ damage
  • 180/120 -- immediate treatment should be sought to limit the degree of other more severe complications
Five to seven measurements are generally taken. The first measurement will be discarded, and the cat's excitement level during the procedure will be taken in account. If the results are in dispute, the procedure will need to be repeated.
