Thanks for all of the stories everyone! They are so wonderful to read and, yes, cats are amazing in the bonds that they form with one another and, also, with other animals (like us!).

I think that part of the reason why my Shivers is so independent is because, when I adopted her, I didn't have any other cats, only a GSD with whom she bonded. Here are pics of them sharing the bed; I still have not met a cat who is as comfortable around a 95-lb. GSD as Shivers was with my Sadie:

After bonding with my GSD, I don't think that Shivers really wants to bond with a cat; it will be interesting to see what happens if I ever get another dog!

Reminds me of the movie, 'The Bear.' It's a Canadian film, older, but an excellent watch for animal lovers.

My cat hated other cats. The kittens I'm caring for loves their siblings. They would spend hours chasing, pouncing, play fighting with each other. And when one eats or sleeps, the others follow. If one is lonely, he or she will make a distinct cry. They are without a mom but you can see how much they need each other to survive. It's so great to see the bond that they have since birth that will last a lifetime, if they get adopted together (I really sure hope so). This is why it's best bonded cats should be adopted together (if finances doesn't allow it, that's okay too).

I don't think any of my cats would care if the others left. I see no real bonding between any of them. All 4 are indoor-only cats.

My story is similar to JrzDefector.

I had a black cat and when he was about 10, I got a female Siamese kitten. She loved him so much. They were together every second. They were always curled up together sleeping and she would get very upset if I took him to the vet or something. After he died, she would look for him throughout the house and it broke my heart. I didn't want her to be lonely, so I decided to get a kitten. She was NOT happy at all. It took a long time for her to fully accept him. He bonded with me very quickly so he wasn't going anywhere. He's going to turn 2 in October. Now they get along and will play together. Sometimes I even catch them sleeping curled up together but it's not like she was with the black cat.
