Chardone our older Russian Blue left us today. Chardone was the Cat Rescues spelling of Chardonnay. We thought it cute so we left it.
The loss occurred in the middle of a visit to the vet. I was in fact getting a lesson on how to give the cat a subcutaneous injection. She suddenly just keeled over and her urine released. Immediately to the table and attempts to get her going. After an hour we were invited back and held her head as she departed. Her heart simply kept slowing and nothing would stop the slowing...and then it stopped.
One word for other cat folk about which we felt bad. She had lost 3 of 12lbs. Neither we or her groomer noticed as she was a hugely fluffy cat. We have in fact decided to get a scale again and weigh our creatures periodically. Not saying it would have made a difference but we would feel better if we had taken her in when she lost a pound.
Otherwise as pleasant a passing as can be. Swift and without pain. And for the humans involved none of that awful decision making that causes so much pain.
So I hope she greets us at the Rainbow Bridge with Sprite and Coco Chanel and Tintero and Taffy and the others...We look forward to greeting them all.
My heart goes out to you Ivmensch. You and Chardone are in my thoughts. Hope you can still enjoy your holidays and find yourself surrounded by family and friends.
I lost one of mine about a month ago .... she used to hide behind the freezer and we'd have to pull it out to get her out. I've only put it back 3 days ago.
lv, i am so sorry to hear about chardonne. it is never easy, but at least she was surrounded by people who loved her.
Interesting. Both of us and the vet who had taken care of her for 17 years. And I think she was hit harder than we were. We had already considered that Chardone was ageing and failing. But the vet thought this reasonable routine until the creature ups and dies in the middle of routine stuff.
She may actually have been more struck than we were. Lovely lady...loves all cats. But she does not win them all.
My heart goes out to you. She had a good life with a loving, caring family all the way. Yes, she will be waiting.
