we've had a number of problems with out little suki choosing to pee on the couch instead of in the box, so i watch her litter box habits like a hawk.

because of her tendencies, we keep it SUPER clean. once she exits we're armed with a bag and a scooper.

however i've noticed that she doesn't seem to be very fond of brand new litter. every night before i go to bed, i place her in the box and she usually goes right away. but after a litter change she does the spread eagle as i lower her into it and hops right out immediately.

weird...

Maybe she just doesn't like the type of litter.

I agree with ShelbyGirl... it quite possibly is the brand of litter, the box size (lid or no lid), or where the box is located.

Yep, sounds like she is rejecting the LITTER brand/type and not the fact that the box is clean. What brand & type litter do you use?

I'm using 'World's Best Cat Litter' and it is truly wonderful and long-lasting. A bag is more expensive upfront but it's lasting much longer than the cheaper clay clumping litters AND it's safe, almost no dust, and I can flush it with no problem.

its definitely not the litter.

i've tried 5 different kinds and tidy cat scoop is the only one that she will come NEAR. which sucks, because it smells so bad.

She may prefer pellets, or clay or sand or crystals. She may also prefer a covered box to an uncovered. You can be sure there is a reason for her avoidance. Has she been medically checked for a UTI?

yeah, i've been dealing with this issue since we got her june. i've tried corn based, paper, pellets, clay.. the litter we use now is what she was using at the shelter and its the only one that she will come near. she just doesn't seem to like it when it's fresh.

we've been giving her rescue remedy and that seems to have stopped the peeing. i just thought this was a funny behavior and wondered if anyone else had experienced it.

It could very well be a UTI...has she been medically checked for one? Using your couch or piles of clothes is common with an UTI
It is a odd behavior because most cats are fanatic about using a box.

I agree to get her vet-checked.

Have you tried an unscented litter? Dr. Elsey's Precious Kitty is what I use and it doesn't smell at all.

dudes, i promise its not a medical issue. as we've been battling this since june, i've taken her to the vet already. i'm actually in contact with an animal behaviorist who is helping me with the big issue.

i really only posted because i thought it was funny...
