I actually just checked all 4 of my contracts on my 4 PBs. They state I may return kitten within 30 days, for a full refund, less the $250 deposit. But, they could only be returned for health reasons and a full vets statement backing up the health problem.
Finding a reputable bereeder is a must! basically I would screw that breeder and look elsewhere. Secondly I have a purebred Somali- a rudy named. Leopalorn.
Got him for $700+ Right now hes one of if not the most valuable thing I pocess,
on the upbeat though I agree with most here that a reputable shelter rescue cat/kitten is the best thing to do.
Hehehe. You bought into a hornets nest here didn't you. Don't take it personally, carolina. There are folks here who are stretched to the limit to save the next cat that crawls up on their doorstep. God bless them. As a cat lover, you probably contribute to cat causes like I do so don't take it personally.
Most cat breeders don't make any money. And, your purchase is an outlet for a close but not completely perfect show cat. Nonetheless, you shouldn't be an involuntary donor to the breeder. She owes you the money and depending on where you are located (what state) she could have a hot mess on her hands for withholding your refund but keeping the kitten.
What I would do is make a plan with her to pay what she can afford each month until she gets your $550 back. Suggest $50/month. See where that gets you.
One thing you do want to be aware of is your state's law regarding suits. For example, must all suits where the monies owed is under amount "X" first proceed through small claims court?
Having been through small claims court after having been diddled on a fencing job, and having had judgement granted in our favour - well, maybe it's different where you are, but don't go holding your breath you'll see the money any time soon, if at all. You have to start going to the next level of court if you're going to start with liens or the like and the next level requires representation (whereas in most small claims you represent yourself). Very, very shortly, the math won't add up.
It would be far better if this can be settled outside the judicial process.
Little by little as far as paying back goes I think thats a wonderful idea./.. talk to the breeder if you can,.. I dont think he/she is reputable though
This is the most asinine thing I've ever heard. There are thousands upon thousands of kittens/cats available at your local shelter. Why would you need a purebred? Also, you should know that he is absolutely NOT a legitimate breeder. Legitimate breeders don't breed until they already have someone on a waiting list for the cat/dog. The potential owners have been interviewed and have a life long relationship with the breeder because legitimate breeders care about where their animal ends up.
What is wrong with the kitten that you need to give him back? Is he sick?
Should I threaten to take her to court or give her time to pay the refund.
Personally, I would tell her she has two weeks to provide the refund she is contractually obliged to give or I will take her to small claims court.
