While he deliberates over how to accessorize with purple every morning, pop star Prince says burqa-wearing Islamic women are lucky they don't have to worry about making such choices.
"It's fun being in Islamic countries, to know there's only one religion. There's order. You wear a burqa. There's no choice,” he told British newspaper, The Guardian, “People are happy with that.”
Apparently, Prince, not all people.
Mariam Sobh, Editor-in-Chief of Hijabtrenz.com, said she finds Prince's narrow understanding of the situation amusing.
“Prince is seriously out of touch with reality on this one. Perhaps he doesn't know what a Burqa is? I'm just shocked that instead of empathizing with women who are forced to wear it, he would basically say ‘too bad,’” Sobh told FOX411’s Pop Tarts. “I agree that we sometimes need boundaries, most likely when we are growing up, but if I'm not mistaken, he's tried to break boundaries throughout his career?
It's one thing for people to "suspect your stupidity. It's another thing to open your mouth and confirm it!! What a Maroon!!
I think Prince was being clever. It sounds like he's been to the Middle East, may have even performed there (yes, some places there DO listen to modern music). So to preserve his ability to revisit that part of the world, he likely chose to skirt around the question to avoid self-defecating his career with the Islamists. (And, no, I do not mean self-deprecation .) I highly doubt that what he said is what he thinks.
Loose lips sink ships, and I think we all know that Americans have trouble with thinking before they speak.
