The causes of meningiomas are not well understood.[12] Most cases are sporadic, appearing randomly, while some are familial. Persons who have undergone radiation, especially to the scalp, are more at risk for developing meningiomas, as are those who have suffered brain injury at some time.[13] Atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima were more likely to develop meningiomas, with the incidence increasing the closer that they were to the site of the explosion. Dental x-rays increase the risk of meningioma, in particular for patients who had frequent dental x-rays in the past, when the x-ray dose of a dental x-ray was higher than in the present. [14]

Maybe she just got a brain tumor and it's not her fault. Per the post above, they don't know what causes it.

Why does there always have to be a reason? I was diagnosed with cancer at 23 and had shown symptoms that were missed because I was "too young to have cancer" since I was 18 or 19 (which is why I was stage IV by the time they found it). Didn't drink, smoke, do drugs, lived a healthy lifestyle out in the country, no family history of cancer... sometimes it just happens.

But how offensive is it to blame the victim and say that the cancer is caused by "internalizing feelings". Bull****. People who say that are stuck in the generation that made cancer and other serious illness victims stay silent and ashamed about their fights.

Whats with the snark?

I hope the tumor stays benign. Anything going wrong with the brain is scary.

My daughter had a brain tumor when she was only eight years old & I can assure you that she neither smoked nor drank. The doctor said that it was just "bad luck".

SHeryl Crow had another kind of cancer which when it metastasizes very often migrates to the brain. I like her also & pray she will be all right.

any cell can become cancerous. we're all born with potential cancer cells, a lot of it's genetic or due to stress or other outside influences. scary stuff though..
