Thinking of her makes me smile. That movie she did with Bob Hope, where she and a bunch of male nurses came to the island-well, evidently it was a really bad movie, but I thought it was funny! All of Bob Hope's men are standing there as the door opens on the plane, and they're singing "Welcome pretty ladies" and first she steps off, then all of the male nurses. Good stuff. Even if it was bad!
It's weird because I was thinking about her recently and wondering what happened to her. She really opened the door for female comedians. What a talent she was!
She was def a pioneer. I used to love to watch her on TV when I was a kid.She was actually a beautiful woman who made herself less threatening while she put Fang down in her act.The only other women I remember are Totie Fields and Joan Rivers when she was first starting out.
RIP
One of the funniest movies I saw as a kid was "Boy Did I Get a Wrong Number" with Phyllis Diller, Bob Hope and Elke Summer. Just thinking about Diller makes me laugh. Her humor will be missed!
Is that the one with the bubbles? I need to watch this old 60s kiddie matinee classic again.
I am bumping up an old thread. I really enjoyed Phyllis Diller. One hilarious lady. Funny humor without a potty mouth. They don't make one's like her anymore.
There is much less censorship now than in PD's day.Who knows what she could have had in her act in a setting that was not so regulated. It was considered risque to make fun of a man for any reason back then and sexuality was not a topic polite people discussed especially on The Ed Sullivan Show.
